True Story

So I was getting Osten dressed this morning, and out of nowhere he looked down at his shorts (which I admit were somewhat dissheveled) and said, "Mommy, I got a lot of sprinkles.  Will you iron my shorts?"

WHAT??!!

And before I knew it he was rummaging around in his pockets, and he said, "Mommy, be careful with my pockets.  I've got butterflies, baby robots and a frog in there!"

SAY WHAT??!!

I guess it's time to start doing pocket checks before I throw his stuff in the washing machine!

Not-so-Quiet Riot

We celebrated Wells' first birthday Saturday morning, and it was our first outing with Osten since he broke his arm Thursday afternoon.  Hamilton and his family were nice enought to give Osten an all-access pass to Hamilton's drum set during Wells' party.  Osten banged his little heart out!  It was a great (albeit not-so-quiet) distraction, and Osten didn't even seem to notice that he wasn't able to run around and jump with the other kids.

Happy Birthday, Blog!

It's hard to believe that it was one year ago that I started this blog.  Time seems to travel just as fast--if not faster--when you're documenting it.  So much has happened this year with our move being the most notable major change.  We will likely spend much of this next year trying to finish geting settled and hopefully by this time next year, every last box will be unpacked.  Hopefully.

Speaking of notable events, this Mother's Day will definitely be remembered as the one when Osten broke his arm.  He is doing remarkably well as his bones mend, but it's unbelievably heart-wrenching to see his little arm covered in a bandage and (in theory) immobilized in a sling.  We were supposed to be at Hilton Head visting friends for Mother's Day, and Osten has been talking almost incessantly for weeks about going to the beach.  Of course, we had to can that plan and quickly formulate a new one.

The day started with breakfast in bed.  Both kids helped Daddy make eggs and toast, and they were right in tow as he delivered breakfast with coffee (!!) on a tray.  The kids used permanent marker (?!?!) to decorate a hilarious Michael Scott talking card, and when they went to bed tonight their faces (as well as the kitchen table) still bore stray marks as evidence of their creative efforts.

Earlier in the week, Tom took Osten shopping for an inexpensive gift of his choosing.  Marci is still a little young for shopping expeditions, so Osten cast her vote by proxy.  He chose the sweetest blue and green sparkly "birdie" pin and a silver bangle bracelet.  They were both sitting on the tray with breakfast.  When I asked the kids which one I should open first, Osten proudly pointed to the smaller box and said, "Open the birdie first!"  Priceless.

With the beach trip canceled, we decided to take the kids to the movies.  Probably not the best idea given the kids' young ages, but the options are pretty slim when physical activity is restricted.  As it turns out, Marci LOVES popcorn, and Osten is not much of a Harry Potter fan.
We sailed through the previews, but then only made it through about ten minutes of Monsters v. Aliens before Marci was crying and rolling around on the floor.  Meanwhile, Osten decided that the audio was way too loud, and he was ready to go, too.  And so we grabbed our 3-D glasses and back out into the lobby we went.

The lobby is where the real action is anyway.  We spent the next 20 minutes watching the kids climb on the video games and run around.  Lesson learned.  Should we find ourselves at a movie theatre again in the near future, we'll bypass the box office, eat our popcorn in the lobby and watch the kids play video games!

Sliding into Summer

Marci had a ball playing with the new slide that Wells got for his birthday.

She even posed for a picture!

Tough Break

Guess who broke not one but two bones in his arm (OUCH!!!) on the monkey bars at school on Thursday? Here is our little tough guy getting fitted for his sling. He is such a trooper. Mommy and Daddy are all torn up about his injury, but he seems to be taking it in stride. For now, his arm is in a splint and wrapped with a bandage until the swelling goes down. We go back to the orthopedic doctor on Thursday for a cast. Until then, it's Tylenol around the clock and lots of movies, M&Ms and Spiderman chewies.

The Dark Side

It looks like the Force is strong with this one . . .

. . . like father, like son!

Blue Man Group

When Osten was home last week with the tummy bug, I got out the finger paints at his request.

He loved squirting the paint out all by himself ... especially the blue paint!

He was one happy little blue man, who made numerous trips to the sink to wash his hands!

Water, Water Everywhere!

Now that the mercury is rising, the best part about soccer practice is the water breaks!

There's water everywhere!
Marci is a big water fan, too!

Even the Kitchen Sink

Marci and Osten play side-by-side even at the kitchen sink these days!
